Welcome to KPFP.ORG's Newsletter, Issue #2

Welcome back to the Kings Partnership For Prevention's e-newsletter. This is our second edition, thanks to our new collaboration with Monkey Business Marketing's owner, Elaine Heirigs. This e-newsletter blast is just one of the new things happening with KPFP.

In an effort to involve a larger cross section of our community, including youth and the business community, we are scheduling our meetings at new times. Our next meeting will May 28th at 3:30 at the Ag Extension Building, 680 N. Campus Dr., Hanford. This will be a "Program Committee" meeting in support of our new Committee structure. Topics will include Youth Development, Community Outreach, Methamphetamine, Environmental Prevention - Media, Training, Recognition and Fundraising (grants). Please join us and share your ideas at this working meeting.

Our meeting schedule for the 09-10 fiscal year will be posted shortly on our website, kpfp.org by our new President for the 09-10 fiscal year, Karen Gomez Barrera. Karen is the Executive Director of the Corcoran Family YMCA and has been an active member of the Coalition since its inception 6 years ago. We are honored to have Karen lead the Coalition into the next decade. WELCOME KAREN!

Lastly, this brings us to our website which has a new host. We have transferred our site to a new server, same URL. This will provide us greater autonomy as our Coalition grows and expands. Check the site frequently for new information, events and services. We apologize for any technical glitches during this brief transfer period.

Enjoy the newsletter and send me your announcements This electronic publication is sent out on approximately the 1st and 15th of the month.  Please have your announcements to me no later than the 3rd working day before the 1st and 15th.

Nell Lobdell, KPFP Coordinator

The Community Anti-Drug Coalitions Of America Present: a Webcast: Getting Heard Through All Media Channels

A Free, Public Domain Satellite TV/Webcast Program

Date:
Thursday, May 28 2009
Time: 10:00-11:00 AM PT

Description: When it comes to preventing teen substance abuse, raising awareness of drug-related issues in the community is key.

One of the best ways to do that is to get the word out through media channels, such as TV, radio, newspapers and the internet. But, how we used to do things isn't good enough anymore. We need to twitter, blog, podcast, and utilize social norms campaigns. But as the media landscape changes, we can't ignore television, radio, and newspapers.

Learning Objectives:
-        Learn media language
-        See how social media can help keep costs down and still get the word out
-        Discover how new media and traditional media can work together
-        Hear how coalitions are utilizing media to promote themselves and their activities
